We came up with a very fitting name for this piece “Lets Be Heroes” this is a great name because it connects to a very emotional scene we added in which ven doubts his abilities in being a hero and gives up but jet tries to tell him that being a hero is not for the fame or glory it’s about having a good heart. This scene comes after when the heroes get knocked out by bad guy rabs and then after all that they will go help out the president.
Jorden rewrote the script that in my opinion was more structurally sound and much more powerful.
we developed a really interesting scene after the big emotional is a scene where ven and jet are going to bad guy rabs location and “i need a hero” plays and me and jabets run into each from wing to wing doing different funny actions. This was criticised for being too long and needed to be cut down a little bit which was fair.
the big emotional scene was mostly improvised and required a lot of emotion this scene is great because it strips the superhero stuff away and boils down to two people talking about what it means to be a hero and how they can improve. this scene is great because it show who are characters really are gives kids an role model they can look up to and maybe gives the older audience someone they can relate to. these people are not perfect they are flawed just like the rest of us. my only nitpick about this scene is that it is a little too short and it doesn’t help that me and jabs was talking really fast and not letting the emotion take over.
one thing we need to remember is to talk slower and give it more energy because in children’s theater that is one of the core ingredients and is extremely important if you piece doesn’t have enough energy then children will get bored and it will fail and i am lacking in that area.
