Children’s theatre logbook 3

We were criticised for being too goofy and that didn’t resonate with some people so we decided to change the story to make it stronger. We made ven and jet (the main characters) superheroes but bad superheroes

Typical superheroes are heroic and selfless beings that will sacrifice everything in order to save the day. But ven and jet are different they are selfish and only in it for the fame and glory you could consider them a deconstruction of typical superheroes which stuff like that does exist but none of them were for kids.

In my performance i wanted to emulate the classic square jawed superhero from the 60s so i put on a deep booming voice which superheroes from that time period were like but i used another voice similar to my normal voice when ven was talked to jet a person who knows his identity. I did this because if i did the deep voice all the time it would undoubtedly get really annoying.

We did a major change to the story and that is the entrance for bad guy rabs, in the original draft bad guy rabs were just introduced without no build up so we did something brilliant after the ven and jet stop arguing the imperial march starts playing a very menacing song then the henchmen of bad guy rabs comes out tricking the audience into thinking that he is the villain but we later find out that he is not the main villain the other less menacing guy is the villain. This is called subverting the audiences exceptions and when done well can it has a great effect on your audience.

what we done well was we made great scenes that added to the the universe we built and was tonally consist with the previous scenes and we did this with one member short.

what we need to keep in mind next lesson is that we need to develop more scenes like this one and keep that tone going and meld them all together.
