Children’s Theatre is a play that are primarily for children but can be enjoyed by everyone. The shows are can be performed by children or other adult actor who has to emulate the spirit of a child so that mean the energy levels need to be high. The heart of children’s is to tell story that are relatable and can teach a valuable lesson but it’s important not to talk down to them and treat them like children or lesser than you theres a good balance we need to strike
The Little Angel Theatre is a theatre made for children and their families. It is a puppet theatre which is very much something children would enjoy and some adults too puppet performances require a lot of energy and doing silly voices and children do enjoy that but it also has a lot of heart.
Another thing we need keep in mind is children’s theatre is really challenging because children by nature are very unpredictable you will never know how they will act and they will never act how you will think, so i think this project really improved my improvisation skills more and to add on to that point children has a lot of energy and to keep them interested you will need to match their energy levels but one thing to take note of is that if a child is not reacting that doesn’t just mean they are uninterested it could also signify they’re interested in the story you are telling.
Children theatre is very challenging because like i said you need to have really high energy and you have to keep children’s attention and i think most people don’t understand how hard it really is and just think that they can make anything and sell it to kids but it it’s not like that at all it’s a lot more challenging and really tests you.
One thing I have learned and i quite enjoy when it comes to children’s Theatre is that you can do a lot of silly voice and that works well. I really enjoy doing silly voices to entertain people and that’s children’s Theatre in a nutshell i feel like for example right now my character in children’s Theatre has a really deep voice and thats really fun to play around with i feel like if it was anything else i would probably have had to use my normal voice unless it’s a comedy scene but with children’s theatre you have that freedom which i love about it.
Most people would think characters in children’s theatre plays would be very one note and not that interesting compared to say an adult play. But I disagree as someone who loves character writing characters in children’s Theatre can be interesting for example in our group we were tasked to write character sheets and i wrote a whole bio for my character ven about his superhero adventures and why he wants to be a hero. Even putting that aside in the actual performance when my character was a hero he put on a deep voice then when he was talking to his friend he used his normal voice, in my opinion that adds so much depth to him and makes the audience wonder why he does that and leads them to their own conclusions.
